Role Overview :We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Insight team and help shape Arrive's new engineering hub in India. This is more than a management role — it is a foundational opportunity to stand up a high-performing team from the ground up, in a domain that is central to Arrive's mission.
The Insight team facilitates and empowers city operators to make data-informed parking policy decisions, helping make cities more livable. We provide operators with a comprehensive set of tools that offer detailed, accurate, and accessible insights into parking infrastructure, occupancy, supply and demand, as well as policy and compliance — enabling them to clearly understand their challenges and implement effective solutions for residents and visitors. You will embody our engineering culture, setting the standard for technical excellence, ownership and collaboration. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on people, delivery, and technical guidance, working in a tight-knit "Three in a Box" partnership with your Product Manager and Designer. You will partner with the India hub site leader to grow Arrive's local presence — ensuring your engineers feel connected, supported and integrated into our global engineering org
. Your Impact Within the First Year
● Build a foundational team. Build a foundational team. Onboard and shape the Insight team in India — establishing a positive, collaborative, high-performance culture grounded in Arrive's engineering tenets.
● Ship a meaningful Insight capability to operators. Ship a meaningful Insight capability to operators. Partner with Product and Design to deliver a step-change in how city operators see and act on parking infrastructure, occupancy and supply/demand — landing a flagship outcome that customers feel within the year. [Hiring manager: replace with the specific FY outcome from the Insight roadmap.]
● Raise the technical bar. Raise the technical bar. Guide architectural decisions across the Insight stack (Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, React, PostgreSQL) — improving reliability, observability and the team's ability to ship safely and frequently.
● Make AI-Everywhere real for the team. Make AI-Everywhere real for the team. Champion adoption of GenAI tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex) across the SDLC — not as a perk, but as a measurable productivity and quality lever. Key Responsibilities
● Lead, coach and mentor. Manage and develop your team of engineers. Own career growth, performance, engagement and mentorship. Create an empowered, high-trust environment.
● Own delivery and execution. Take full ownership of your team's delivery process — work breakdown, backlog management in Jira, sprint planning, and proactive management of technical debt. Optimise for outcomes and value delivered, not just features shipped ("Stop Starting, Start Finishing").
● Provide technical leadership. Guide your team in making sound architectural decisions, solving complex technical problems, and adopting best practices. Stay close to the code — contribute hands-on where it adds the most leverage.
● Collaborate in a "Three in a Box" model. Work hand-in-hand with your Product Manager and Designer partners ("Three in a Box") to define, prioritise and execute the product vision for Insight.
● Champion Arrive's engineering tenets. Live our engineering tenets — "You Build It, You Run It", "Secure by Design", "Resilient by Default", "API-first" and "AI-Everywhere" — and make them real in how the team works.
● Recruit, hire and grow. Be a key leader in attracting and hiring foundational engineering talent for our India office, and a visible mentor to the broader India-based engineering community. Required Skills and Experience
● Engineering leadership experience. 13+ years in software engineering, with at least 3+ years in a people management role. A proven track record of leading teams that deliver complex, high-quality software.
● Deep technical acumen. Deep technical credibility in modern software development practices — Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, React, RESTful APIs, PostgreSQL, microservices, cloud-native development and CI/CD. You can command the respect of senior engineers and guide architectural discussions effectively.
● AI-Everywhere mindset. Demonstrated, hands-on use of generative AI tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex or equivalents) to accelerate delivery — and a point of view on how to scale AI-assisted engineering across a team.
● Expertise in agile delivery. Expert in agile methodologies — extensive experience with work breakdown, sprint planning and backlog management in Jira.
● Cross-cultural communication. Exceptional communicator — capable of building strong relationships and fostering alignment between your team in India and stakeholders across the globe. ● Passion for people and culture. Passionate about developing engineers and building an inclusive, high-performance culture. Experience helping to establish a new engineering office, or working closely with a site leader, is a significant plus.
● Education. Technical university degree, or equivalent experience. Nice to Have
● Background in analytics, data-intensive products or data-driven decision tooling — particularly for B2B / operator-style customers.
● Experience working with geospatial, time-series, or operational telemetry data.
● Prior experience as a site leader, or as a founding engineer / EM in a new geographic hub. Desired Personal Characteristics
● You take initiative and follow through — positive, can-do attitude.
● You seek to understand both business and technology, and how the two play together to build products customers love and that work for the business.
● You are a humble team player who enjoys open-minded, collaborative discussion.
● You enjoy leading and facilitating, and adapt your communication style to your audience.
● You have a true passion for continuous improvement, learning and evolution — including in how modern engineering teams use AI.
